The Dalai Lama Trust is delighted to announce the recipients of our undergraduate scholarships for the year 2021. The Dalai Lama Trust Scholarship was created to give some assistance to Tibetan students facing financial adversities in pursuit of their higher education. We would also like to take this opportunity to explain that the funds for this scholarship are derived mainly from public offerings. With this in mind, we would like to thank all those who have made offerings to the Dalai Lama Trust as your donations allow us to take on several endeavours including providing scholarships to 100 undergraduate students and 5 postgraduate students each year.
We have been hard at work in reaching the final list that we are presenting to you today. Our office has gone through a rigorous process in determining this list and we would like to share with you how we came to make this decision.
Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Dalai Lama Trust decided to move our analogue process onto a digital platform by creating an online application form and scholarship section on our website to minimize the exposure students might have to face when applying. Soon after the application deadline went by, we began collating all the information from the application forms. We also built a Scholarship Repository so that access to the data was well organized and easy to visualize. A total of 139 applications were received by us with the final number being 125 after removing the duplicate applications and students who had voluntarily withdrawn. All uploaded documents and information from the applications were carefully checked and a few dozen salient data points were documented. This data was then presented to our selection committee. As per the scholarship guidelines, the selection committee went through all the applications and made the final selection of 100 students who they believed would benefit the most from this scholarship.
