The Dalai Lama Trust
Education

His Holiness the Dalai Lama has always considered education to be of the utmost importance, especially for the Tibetan people in exile and finds it unacceptable when any young, promising student is unable to pursue his studies owing to lack of funds. For that reason, we at the Trust attempt to provide scholarships in various forms so that deserving candidates have an opportunity to pursue their educational goals.

At the trust, we believe that the new generations will make a difference and therefore it is imperative that they be well educated as ambassadors of the future. We aim to give those in need, and those who are enthusiastic about studying – a real opportunity to follow their dreams.

The Dalai Lama Trust provides scholarships to students for their higher studies, gives grants and donations to various educational institutions for several different purposes- the construction of school buildings, the general running of schools, administration, meals, uniforms, materials, books, science labs, computers labs, and in special cases providing facilities for the disabled.

His Holiness has taken a special interest in children with disabilities. To run a school for children with disabilities requires more effort as the children are in need of special care. The trust has been involved with several such schools, and this has been an extremely humbling, life-affirming and eye-opening experience for us.

“In order to achieve both internal and external progresses appropriate for modern times, having modern education is extremely important.”
