The Dalai Lama Trust has tried to contribute wherever possible to lend financial support in cases of emergency, natural disasters and fires when immediate action and funds are needed. Emergency Relief alleviates the suffering and trauma of those affected by providing funding for humanitarian relief and developmental aid to people who have been marginalised by geography, or harmed by natural disaster, war, conflict, exploitation, physical harm, or economic deprivation.

Between 2003 and 2004, the Trust made two significant donations towards emergency relief. The first was towards the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for flood victims. The second was for victims of heavy snowfall towards the Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister’s Relief Fund during the unusual snowfall in the state. In both cases, clean water, sanitation, education, rehabilitation, accommodation, and protection were provided through the funding.

Between 2005 and 2007 relief funds were given to the Tibetan Sweater Sellers Association, Hanamkonda, Andhra Pradesh and Banswara, Rajasthan towards relief and rehabilitation for those families whose merchandise has been destroyed by fire.

In the year between 2010 and 2011, five donations were made. A donation to Chief Minister of Karnataka State, towards the relief fund for flood affected victims. Another donation was made to the Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir State, towards the relief fund for cloudburst victims of Leh, Ladakh, J&K State. A third donation to the Chief Minister of Karnataka State, towards the relief fund for flood affected victims. Donations were also made to the Tibetan Sweater Sellers from Agra, Uttar Pradesh for the relief & rehabilitation of those families whose merchandise have been lost during transportation and to the Tibetan Refugee Trader’s Association, Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, towards relief & rehabilitation for the families whose merchandise was destroyed by fire.

Between 2011 and 2012 two donations were made for victims of two kinds of natural disasters. The first donation was made to the Relief Fund of the Chief Minister of Sikkim, towards relief work in the earthquake-affected areas in Sikkim State. The second was made to the Chief Minister of Orissa, towards relief fund for flood-affected areas of Orissa State.

In the year between 2012 and 2013 two donations were made for the cause of a single natural disaster via two parties. The first donation was made to Central Tibetan Relief Committee (CTRC), towards the relief and rehabilitation works for the Ladakh Jangthang nomads whose livestock were badly affected by heavy snow fall.  The second was made to CTRC and Chief Executive/Deputy Commissioner of LAHDC respectively, towards the same mentioned cause.

Between 2013 and 2014 two donations were made for a single cause of relief work via two parties. The first donation was made to Chief Minister’s Relief Fund of Uttarkhand, towards relief work in the flood-affected zones of the state. The second was made to Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, towards the same cause mentioned above.

In the year of 2014 and 2015 two donations were made. The first donation was made to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister’s Flood Relief Fund towards relief and rehabilitation work at those flood affected areas in Jammu and Kashmir areas. The second donation was made to Mr. Jamyang, President of Regional Tibetan Youth Congress Chandigarh towards social and medical assistance that this students’ association has been carrying out.

And finally, between 2015 and 2016 one donation was made to the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund, Tamil Nadu for relief and rehabilitation for those who were gravely affected by massive flood due the result of the heaviest rains in several decades.
