The Dalai Lama Trust is pleased to announce that after posting our job announcement and a selection process we have now officially welcomed the newest members of our team in their roles of data entry. We began with an orientation on the morning of Thursday the 14th of January. After the traditional sweet rice and tea, Mr. Jamphel Lhundup, Secretary of the trust gave an introduction to the project and explained its various objectives so that the team could have a broader context for their roles. Following the introduction, Mr. Tenzin Thinley, the Database Manager and developer explained the general guidelines of their new positions in more concrete terms as to what their daily work would consist of. With this, the orientation came to a close.
The following morning saw the beginning of a one week training program followed by two weeks of entry practice. This day was used to explain in more detail the various areas of the project and to show the new members around the office to familiarise them with their new surroundings. Further details were also given regarding their specific roles as data entry clerks.
An interactive exercise session was held regarding the categorisation and presentation of sample documents, so that they may start to become more comfortable around the materials they will be working with. A walk through of the site and more specifically the Library and Museum was conducted as these areas will be their domain. After this, a technical introduction to the archival management system was given and subsequently some typing and document editing practice was carried out.
We look forward to the training process and to our growing team. The trust looks forward to this new step and the great work that will come from it.
